Echizen-Takefu Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen

Echizen-Takefu Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen

Echizen-Takefu Station is a railway station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, in Echizen, Fukui, Japan, operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West). It opened on 16 March 2024 with the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Tsuruga.
Horiki worked with Echizen washi artisans to create a washi artwork featuring the Echizen City flower ‘Chrysanthemum’ on the walls of the waiting room and the Echizen City bird ‘Stork’ on the ceiling of the concourse.
The works were created in the hope that the people of the Echizen region will bloom a large flower of life like the beautiful chrysanthemum flower and that the local industry will spread to the world like the stork flapping its wings.

Setsugekka + SALON in Kyoto

New washi light walls were installed for the renovated Hana bar counter area in Setsugekka + Salon, an authentic bar in Kyoto.
The effects of the lighting gradually change, and the washi presents a different look and atmosphere depending on the time of day. Using the watermark technique handed down from ancient times, paper fibers that have been dyed in natural color tones are added to the paper, causing a tree-like pattern to emerge.

Hasedera Temple in Kamakura

These dynamic washi works, measuring 1.5 by 9.5 meters (in two locations on the walls) and 5.0 by 7.5 meters (in one location on the ceiling), were installed as part of the renovations commemorating 1300 years since the making of the Eleven-Headed Kannon statue.
Their designs are based on the concepts of being touched by the mercy of the divine ears, which can hear and distinguish all voices and sounds in the world, in the divine will (the center of the sky), spreading of the light of hope and the waves of wisdom.
The wall surfaces on either side of the Eleven-Headed Kannon feature designs that symbolize hearing the voices of suffering and offering waves of salvation, and the ceiling expresses those waves and the light of hope spreading, intersecting and fill the space.
