Kyoto Research Park Bldg #9
Kyoto 2010

In response to a request for a work symbolizing the philosophy of the Kyoto Research Park whose motto is “Gathering, Exchanging & Creating,” this light object was born from a new challenge of combining three different elements from three different types of business: acrylic, washi, and lighting. The technology to shape acrylic tubes, to then install LED lighting and ensure uniform luminescence, and the technology to create 3-dimensional washi without glue or frames were all fused into one work. The work was produced based on an image of people from diverse fields exchanging different ideas, and such sharing growing strongly upward. During the daytime, the planting in the courtyard creates a natural landscape and at night, the light object and its mirror image greet each other.
