This exhibition hall ceiling is inspired by Amami’s old takakura grain storehouses, with a structure that makes abundant use of Amami-sourced materials. The bright light from the top is filtered through washi and diffused throughout the hall. The materials and designs that comprise the ceiling incorporate washi on a gentle, curved surface. The washi is made using locally-sourced sugarcane fibers and Oshima silk threads.
