Osaka, Japan
Because it was to be placed in a space for prayer, this
work was given an unfinished color to reflect Japan's traditional spiritual
concept that white paper cleanses impurity. The contrast provided by
the embedded fibers expresses sun, wind, earth. I created this work
with the hope that a sun-like brilliant energy, a wind-like refreshing
feeling, and an earth-like immense serenity silence would envelop people
in an expanding circle within the church. This work was awarded the
2001 Japan Architecture Art Craft Association Prize and the 2002 Interior
Planning Prize.
