The entrance to the Tokyo Midtown complex is a gate modeled after the Japanese torii gate. Located just inside, the work is a series of walls for the three aerial walkways. It is based on the theme “forest of the village guardian” , after the forests that surround the shrines of guardian spirits. The motifs of the individual walls are “shrine”(B1), “forest”(1F), and “sun”(2F). Each is a simple tapestry made from a single sheet of washi. Lighting controlled according to the time of day makes the passage of time visible in the space.
