Tokyo, Japan
This fancy club is called MITHOS, which means myth, and located in
Roppongi (the most fashionable section in Tokyo.)
Japanese Paper on the curved aclyric wall displays the motif translated
from ancient philosophy. In the ancient myth, "blue" is supposed
to separate heaven and this world and "chains" bond two different
aspects or worlds. When the light goes through this wall, it gives a
sense of transformation from this world.
Gold powder is used in the process of paper-making.

This Japanese restaurant in Tokyo is located in the area where many
trendy Izakaya (Japanese pub) stand in a row. The owner of this restaurant
wanted to create a space for his customers who have an adult taste.
Eriko Horiki came up with the idea to give a comfortable, elegant and
spacious feeling for this basement dining area.

I was asked to produce a partition that expressed the image of a gently
rising spiral like that made by smoke. The washi, embedded with cotton
fibers and paper mulberry fibers, was made in 90-mm-wide bands that
were wrapped around a thin aluminum frame. The overlapping and contrast
created by the spiral vary depending on the viewing position. The aluminum
pipe is embedded in the washi, and rough fibers are stretched in all
directions to create an organic impression. The partition creates a
massive feeling of light in the space, and makes the best of the light-weight
and thin nature of washi. |
