ERIKO HORIKI presents
"THE ART OF JAPANESE PAPER AND LIGHT"(Shiodome Tokyo) |

SUN
This gigantic15m x 3m Washi paper was created as one piece, and it took
12 people two months to complete. The stems of mulberry which is the raw
material of paper are embedded to create these lines. By partially throwing
water drops on the surface, the interesting texture and shade are created
and enhance Washi's appearance. The new technique derived from the traditional
method. 15000 x 3000 mm

This installation's main piece which is a series of two
large-scale Washi pieces (15m x 3m), "MOON" & "SUN",
was surrounded by the newly created Light Objet series -"BIRD",
"FLOWER" and "WIND." With the change of lighting, each
piece expressed its unique existence and created the environment.
These works were created by introducing some of the patented innovative
technique such as 3-D and large-scale Washi making as well as the collaboration
with the legendary craftsmen. The expression of Washi paper dramatically
changed as the degree of lighting gradually changed and showed the wide
range of dynamics of Washi paper.
